Book Review: The Blue Bistro By: Elin Hildebrand

Hi, and welcome back bookworms to our third book review. I am really enjoying this and I hope you are too. I love writing, so to read, write, and talk about books is a great feeling. What makes it better is that you are here to share it with me. Thank you for taking a moment to stop by.

Today’s book review is, The Blue Bistro by, Elin Hilderbrand. I think most people know that Hilderbrand is considered one of the queens of beach reads, but if you don’t know who she is I’ll give you some background knowledge. Hilderbrand has written more than twenty books that are viewed as beach romance novels. The settings of her books normally take place on Nantucket where Hilderbrand also lives with her husband and their dog. The Blue Bistro is one of many that I have read from this author. In fact she is one of my favorite authors, which is why I knew the background information on her. Although her books typically read the same, beach themed romance, I love each one the same. They have all been good so far and The Blue Bistro did not disappoint.

Right away Hilderbrand grabs the readers attention with the opening character, Adrienne. The mystery of the circumstances that surrounded Adrienne is what draws the reader in right away. Writing like this allows the author to keep the readers attention as it creates suspense. It makes the reader want to keep turning to the next page. The reader doesn’t know anything about Adrienne’s past because the book starts with the character already in the middle of an issue. It’s not until later on, that you as the reader find out more about Adrienne. Hilderbrand, always does a great job at developing her characters very well. I wonder if she plots out each character’s personality. I do not do that with my writing, but I think it’s a thing, right? Some writers do plot out their characters, right? Are there any writers reading this, do you plot out your characters? I wonder if it’s something I should be doing. Maybe I should try it. Let me know what you think in the comments.

Over all I do recommend this book, it is a great beach read filled with mystery and romance. It’s not a big book, my mass market version has 336 pages. It is a quick read once you are wrapped up in the story line, which happens in the beginning with Adrienne. As the story goes on you learn that Adrienne is in the middle of a huge life changing event that requires her to adapt to a new city, and a new life. The author had me questioning character building techniques as I read the story and watched how this character grew and strengthened (great for an aspiring want to be bestseller). That is why I write these blogs so we can learn, pick up tips, and share tips. With that being said, if you are an aspiring writer and are interested in reading this book, study the characters as you read. As I said earlier Hilderbrand is one of my favorite authors so I have some of her other books on my TBR list. She’ll be one author that will come up in more than one book review which gives us more time to learn and grow from her writing style.

Before we go I have some great news that I want to share! Thanks to a company called Pango, I now have a platform called Addington’s Bookstore, where I will be selling used books. As of the date of this blog post I have 37 books listed with more books to come. The Blue Bistro will make it into Addington’s Bookstore, but it’s currently not listed because it’s still in my “go through pile”. I evaluate each book’s condition before listing and detail my findings with each book listing. If you wanted to check it out, click on the blue hyper link that says, Addington’s Bookstore, click the website when the small box pops up, and it will take you directly to my bookstore.

Well bookworms, this is it for this post. I’ll be back with another book review and updates on Addington’s Bookstore. Until then stay safe and take care. ~M.C. Addington
