Olivia’s Stories: Season 2

Introduction:

Welcome to the second season of Olivia’s Stories. In our first season we were introduced to Olivia who is temporarily, by choice, living in a retirement community until she figures out the next steps in her life. Olivia at first didn’t trust anyone in the retirement center. Eventually she began to open up to one person where she started to share her past hospital experiences. The other residents that live in the community heard Olivia tell these stories and so they simply sat near Olivia to listen. An employee at the retirement community realized what was happening as Olivia’s audience in the retirement community grew. She began recording Olivia telling her stories and posted them on YouTube…

If you haven’t already feel free to go back and catch up on this series by reading season one. Episode 1:

Today I got ready as I normally do, gathered my things, and headed to the seating area where my audience waits for me to arrive. Around my wrist was my favorite cinch bag that held my phone, my Chapstick, and a few notes for today’s story time. I don’t normally carry notes with me, but I wasn’t sure which story I wanted to tell. I brought the notes to share with Jessica to see what she thought.

As I turned the corner, which led me to the sitting area, I could see a big commotion was going on. I didn’t know if I should keep walking until I found a seat, stay standing where I was, or go back to my room until things settled down. Everyone was shuffling around, some of the female residents were crying, and one was yelling at no one in particular. It looked like a mental institution. Jessica came up behind me. “I think story time is canceled tonight.”

“What happened?”

“We had to send Walter to the emergency room, and you know how he is with the ladies. They are all upset and worried. The men are upset that the ladies are upset about Walter.”

I didn’t know much about Walter, but what I did know was that he did have a way with women in the retirement center. I didn’t know the men were jealous. Watching them all made me smile. The silliness in all this is as if we are in high school again.

Rosa, one of my audience members at the retirement center, walked over to where Jessica and I stood to ask if I was going to tell a story today. I looked at Jessica, and she looked at me. “I don’t know if it’s a good idea today.”
