Hello Bookworms,
I hope that everyone is doing well. I want to start off by saying, I enjoy creating my blogs posts. I love our blog community and how positive and uplifting we are to each other. It’s really refreshing given the world economics all around us. I wanted to take a minute to thank everyone for creating that environment here for everyone to enjoy. Yes, this is WordPress’s platform but we within this platform community make it what it is, so a thank you to everyone because it is quite enjoyable.
I know another thing that’s enjoyable and refreshing for me and that’s reading. My last book, People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry was put on my DNF (Do Not Finish) list. (If you would like to know why you’ll have to go back and read my blog titled, Book Review: People We Meet on Vacation posted June 16th, 2026.) Shortly after placing that book on my DNF list I visited my local library and came across a historical fiction book, titled Stranger in Savannah by Eugenia Price.
Standing inside the library, I stared at the book before picking it up to read the summary on the inside dust jacket. Why was I just staring it? I felt intimidated, the book is huge. It’s about 755 pages. I read books, lots of books, but for whatever reason, not any books with that large of a page count. The title had me interested. I know you’re not supposed to judge a book by its cover but one word sucked me in, Savannah. I live in Savannah Georgia in the United States so the title caught my eye. Finally I picked it up and read the summary.
The books historical period starts right before the Civil War. The main characters are in the city of Savannah Georgia and in the surrounding cities in Georgia. Each of these characters has their own opinions on being slave owners. Their opinions are not all the same yet some continue to flourish friendships and relationships through the differences of opinion.
The descriptions, along with her character building, and the accuracy of the history in her book really drew me in. Time transferred for me as I was in an era long since gone yet transparent enough to somehow be relatable to current events. Right now my book marker rests on page 371 – chapter 51 as of the date I am creating this post (7/26/26). My posts are created in advance and prescheduled for posting. You will see this post Wednesday 8/5/2026.
Although I’m not done reading this book I do highly recommend it. I’m only halfway through but it’s a good eye opener as far as how and why some things happened in our past. You get to see it through the different perspectives of these characters, and let me remind you they do not all have the same opinions. It makes my mind drift to the current events, political and economical. I really am enjoying this book and this author. I plan to read more of her work.
